My buddy got a camera that will do video now... he wants to start shooting a lot more automotive stuff and possibly start doing a somewhat regular show, but we don't know what to do it on. Ideas have been basic how-to type stuff, random shenanigans, cover local events, that type of thing, but we don't want it to be too off the wall... any ideas on what you'd like to see?

That was pretty high quality film! I need to get a camera and learn to shoot like that. I never realized it was that simple to adjust the rocker arms. I think I need to do that in the Lincoln I can hear a slight ticking under light load that's just enough to drive you nuts and I think it might be a loose rocker arm. Quick question: do you need to drain the oil before removing the valve covers?

Adjusting lash definitely isn't too complicated... it's just a matter of knowing the specs and taking the time to do it. Just keep in mind that it should be done hot(to the specs for it being hot), and as long as you don't have the cam-over-cup design like Nissan KA motors or my Volvo has it isn't hard at all. You shouldn't have to worry about draining the oil on any conventionally laid out motor, just make sure to keep your work space clean so that you don't get any foreign things in the motor while you have the valve cover off.

Ideas for video on cars? One answer is to do it on what you're interested in. Another is to select an audience (define it really tight) and then do it on what they're interested in. Another is to pick shit that everyone might be interested in, but no one is covering it.

Would I watch a "how to take pictures of your car in the best way to sell it?" Totally. Would I watch a short on frame maintenance so it doesn't rust so much? Totally. Would I watch a series of videos that showed me how to maintain a car's finish like a pro detailer? Totally. Would I watch a panel discussing good buys on craigslist or ebay and why they'd buy (or not?) Totally.

Really - the subject matter is endless. Just put yourself in the shoes of those folks you want to have watching it.

Also.

Marketing meeting in Japan, early 60's, where Nissan wanted to introduce their cars into the US, but didn't know what to call them. They used a Norwegian consultant, flew him in, and had a meeting. After going through the presentation, product proposals, etc.

The consultant asked: "When did you need the new name by?"

They said, "Two weeks."

He said, " 'Dat soon?"

ba dum tish.
